Projects

As an embedded systems specialist, and generically the computer engineering specialist for the department, I work on many small projects as a form of service to the program. These include, but are not limited to, the following:
- The Sparta1 Robot Controller - A replacement to the Lego Mindstorms RCX module for use in our first semester coursework. Based on the ARM7 processor.
- An Arduino Compatible Breadboard System - An ATMega168 based platform for use in our second semester coursework. Serves as the primary controller for a materials handling system, such as a water bottling plant or bolt sorting system.
- The Sparta2 General Purpose Reconfigurable System Block - An ARM7/9 based board with a small Xilinx FPGA and RAM on a breadboard-mountable and header-stocked PCB. Similar in many respects to the Hammer, it would allow software development with hardware support with a low entry fee for prototyping or small runs. Once you've got a number of Sparta2 boards in stock, you could work with or pretend to function as nearly any embedded system device by downloading an appropriate configuration chain.
